Retreat Day 13th April, 2013

‘Strength for today; hope for tomorrow’

Retreat Day

A quiet day for anyone affected by cancer and their families and friends. A chance to pray and reflect, spend time in God’s presence, enjoy music and workshops, unwind, take time out, meet new friends & be encouraged.

Firm Roots Retreat Day 13th April, 2013

On 13th April, 2013, seventeen people joined us for the second Firm Roots retreat day, which was held at Alberts Place, Bristol. We had an amazing day hearing stories of how God was helping people through cancer, as well as spending quiet time in prayer and reflection. Our theme for the day was ‘What’s in a name?’ We looked at four names of God – ‘El Roi – The God who sees me’, ‘Jehovah Rapha – The Lord Heals’, ‘Immanuel – God with us’, ‘Jehovah Shalom – God is our peace.’ We thought about Jesus calling out our name in the dark places, as he did to Mary on the morning of his resurrection, and that our names are precious to Him and written on the palms of his hands (Isaiah 49 v 19).

We enjoyed lots of cake (an essential part of Firm Roots!) and people had fun at the bread-making and healthy soup-making workshops. The testimony time was especially moving and the music was beautiful. Thank you to everyone who came and took part. Here is what people said about the day:

“I will never forget this day – it has been so very special.”

“I loved the worship and time spent soaking in God’s presence.”

“For me the highlight of the day was hearing people’s testimonies of how God was walking with them and helping them through their cancer journey. They brought me to tears and gave me strength to face my own situation.”

“Thank you for praying for me and with me.”

“I can’t wait for a full weekend – this day just went far too quickly!”

We are currently planning future retreats and there will be a retreat in Bristol and one in the North West in the Autumn 2013. Please contact us if you would
like to be notified when dates are arranged.
