Past Retreats

Firm Roots Cancer Support offers Christian retreats for people affected by cancer, as well as their families, friends and care-givers.

The first retreat day took place on 24th November 2012, at Trinity College, Bristol. The format of the day was:

  • Coffee, cake & welcome
  • Session One: ‘God’s Unfailing Love’, plus a time of quiet worship.
  • Session Two: Creative Prayer Session: ‘Holding On’
  • Opportunity to receive prayer
  • Lunch
  • Choice of workshops (art/song writing/sign language)
  • Final session: ‘Hope’, plus a time of worship.

Here is what people said about the day…

“It was wonderful – I’m so pleased that I came.”

“We experienced God’s peace, love and presence and we were able to openly express our feelings.”

“I enjoyed the togetherness.”

“It was so worth our two hour journey.”

“All of it was lovely. I enjoyed exploring how we can help one another in prayer.”

“I enjoyed the atmosphere, songs and workshops. It was great to meet new people.”

“Everywhere you turned, you were reminded of God’s presence and His love.”

On the first retreat day in November, the group wrote a song (in the songwriting workshop), called ‘Hope for Tomorrow.’

Hope for Tomorrow

Falling, falling, falling down
Falling, falling, falling down
Into an unknown space
Into a darker place

The questions ‘why?’ – I’m
Calling, calling, calling out to you

Searching, searching for the truth
Searching, searching, for the truth
That His hands still hold me
That He hasn’t let me go

Finding, finding, finding hope
Finding, finding, finding hope
Hope for tomorrow
Strength for today
